Complete Metamorphosis
|
Insects that undergo complete metamorphosis go through four stages. Only about 10% of insects do not go through complete metamorphosis, in which case they go through incomplete metamorphosis like frogs (Guenther, 2015). The first is egg or unborn stage. The second stage is larva; in this stage the insect is classified as young and most likely will look like a worm. This stage will also require a lot of feeding because the larva is growing. In the third stage, the insect is a pupa and growing. This stage is the in-between stage from larva to adult and the insect is mostly inactive while it grows. The fourth and final stage is adult, which is where the insect may now grow wings and begin breeding on its own, which means beginning the cycle over again (Guenther, 2015).
